Ray’s 100th medal

by Sandra

Mo Running

Many of you will be familiar with our oldest member Ray Johnson (if not read his story on member’s stories) he is frequently seen around Faversham in his FRC hoodie and shorts.

On Saturday 27.11.22 Ray achieved his 100th medal when he completed the 5km course at the Herne Bay, Mo Running event. An appropriate event as the Mo runs aims to raise awareness around Men’s health.

The weather was perfect for all three races: 5km, 10km and a HM. There was a good turnout from the club. It was very well organised from beginning to end. It’s a very flat course and all along the seafront.  Depending on which race you were doing, it was either out and back (5k), one and a half loops (10k) and two and a bit for the half marathon. We had members doing all 3 races. But all attention was on Ray!

It was a PB for Ray and he didn’t walk once! 46 minutes and 55 seconds. Ray wasn’t last and he overtook a lady and a young child. It was a privilege and honour to run with him and he talked all the way around. Four of us ran all the way around with him, Katie, Carl, Mags and myself (Caroline)  Paul and Dave also ran with him for the last half mile. It is a tremendous achievement and all at FRC are very proud to have him as a member. Ray was over the moon with all the support…and the medals!
